Selling to kids

Welcome once again, and thanks for droping by the High Knights Blog.! well…I would of said welcome to my blog a couple of weeks ago… but if you haven’t already knoticed HG has started bloggin too… witch is wicked!
To many times have I sat down with him for a couple of cold ones, and he has dropped some of his new found knoledge on me that I may never have come accross otherwise…so like its good for me, it’s now also good for you! knoledge is best shared.
This week i’m going to be brief.  I watched this doco the other day that really opened my eyes to how sly the media world can be. Thing is we all know advertisments are misleading and over the top.. but do our kids know that??.. well kids can sure have their parents wrapped around their fingers a lot of the time.. At least when the media targets us we know their intentions. However in the eyes of our children everything seems genuine.. (Big Coperations) how well do they know our kids? lets just say they have done the research and know how to reel us in at a young age.
we always hear advise about what we should put in our kids stomach , how about what we put into their heads?

Ok, so it’s a bit of a topic change from last time, but this is a subject that has fascinated me for a few years now. I was introduced to it first by a movie called “What the bleep do we know”. And for some reason this is what I felt like blogging about today.

I was totally amazed when I learnt that science can’t actually prove that we are not in a computer generated simulation. Also, there are some fairly compelling arguments that propose that we are actually living in a simulation! This sort of information challenges the general perception of consciousness and reality, pointing towards the value of more mystic, malleable and psychedelic interpretations of reality. Kind of cool if your into being creative – all of this leads to bigger and greater possibilities! I think this viewpoint could also be relevant to thoughts on religion, the  Mayan calendar and also the 2012 debate. The youtube video below is a good intro to the idea of “illusion”, and the links after provide some good background to the current ideas of this interesting philosophical conundrum. Thanks for dropping in on the blog and hope you enjoyed the music while reading. Always appreciate your comments. Cheers HG

Learning more about what we put in our bodies is a good move for your health is it not?.

As a youngster I grew up on tank water.. I have never had teeth problems and I feel completly happy with drinking it. As we all do when we grow up we move out.. I moved into town.

Unless you have grown up on town-water, its hard not to draw the comparisons. the smell and taste is quite different. I had to get a filter, I couldnt help thinking this heavy clorinated smell i get from the steam in the shower is going into my body.. its such an unnatural smell, it can’t be good.

Since we should be drinking about eight glasses a day of it, along with cooking with it,cleaning in it, swiming in it and showering or bathing in it etc. We should learn more about how our water is treated and processed. Unless you live on tank water that is.. I am sure the process rainwater goes through into your pipes and then into your tank before it gets to you is relatively easy to explain.

So granted as common knoledge, we know that our town water must be treated with a range of chemicles in order to make it sterile, clean and safe for our consumption. We put our trust in our governments to make the right choices for us, for the good of the country and it’s people like any other public matter. Fair enough..

What things are going into our water that we don’t need? Surly once its sterile, clean and safe for
our consumption we should leave it at that… This is where the debate about fluoride comes in? Surly if a person required it they could get supplements and also isn’t it already in our toothpaste? Finally besides our teeth, has it got any other heath benefits? well I can answer that last one No.

I Live in Australia, Being concerned for the safety of our water I stumbled across an independent documentary film series called firewater.. It explains how fluoride is put into our water.. the health risks involved..also were does it come from before it goes in our water.

I found this pretty interesting. check it out for yourself.

Ok..If Zelus can blog, then HG can too! Seriously, I’ve been meaning to blog some stuff for ages, but recently have come across heaps of interesting info, that I think is too worthy ( and relevant to the High Knights cause ) not to share! Music and sound are a huge part of all our lives, some people even believe sound is connected to how consciousness converts to physical form. Music imprints on us emotionally and can be used to heal and control us etc…. So anyway, being a bit of a nerd on the sly, I’ve been doing a bit of research on some stuff that most of us take for granted and don’t question about music – beats me why I haven’t looked into this earlier because I think it’s fascinating ( been working with sound for 20 years! ) – but it seems now is the time. So if you listen to music, you should read on, this is important stuff! – let’s start with a brief chat about tuning……

Music could sound better? – Tuning

Having been a musician and a sound engineer for quite a while, it’s only recently that I have looked into the detail of how sound interacts with its environment, and more interestingly with our bodies. Some of the information I have come across in the last couple of weeks has amazed me. Today I want to talk about tuning, and how over time, different tuning standards have been adopted and rejected. The current standard in tuning that the world ( pretty much ) adheres to, is based on the concept of the note A=440hz. As a musician, for many years I have never questioned why I tune my guitar this way, or asked is there a better way to tune it, until now…..

Doing my research, the first thing I discovered was that there have been loads of different ideas about tuning over the centuries – if you want more detail, you can look at these websites :

Next I found out that in 1939 a world tuning standard was advocated by Germany & England at  A=440hz (what we generally use today). The date seemed funny to me, and I then wondered who might be responsible for advocating this standard? Couldn’t believe my eyes when I read this (weird):

The first effort to institutionalize A=440 in fact was a conference organized by Joseph Goebbels (propaganda Minister for nazi Germany) in 1939, who had standardized A=440 as the official German pitch. Professor Robert Dussaut of the National Conservatory of Paris told the French press that: “By September 1938, the Accoustic Committee of Radio Berlin requested the British Standard Association to organize a congress in London to adopt internationally the German Radio tuning of 440 periods. This congress did in fact occur in London, a very short time before the war, in May-June 1939. No French composer was invited. The decision to raise the pitch was thus taken without consulting French musicians, and against their will.” The Anglo-Nazi agreement, given the outbreak of war, did not last, so that still A=440 did not stick as a standard pitch.

A second congress in London of the International Standardizing Organization met in October 1953, to again attempt to impose A=440 internationally. This conference passed such a resolution; again no Continental musicians who opposed the rise in pitch were invited, and the resolution was widely ignored. Professor Dussaut of the Paris Conservatory wrote that British instrument makers catering to the U.S. jazz trade, which played at A=440 and above, had demanded the higher pitch, “and it is shocking to me that our orchestra members and singers should thus be dependent upon jazz players.” A referendum by Professor Dussaut of 23,000 French musicians voted overwhelmingly for A=432.

432 in tune with natural resonance?

Ok, so its just a number that french musicians seem to like……. Well, check out this page for some interesting facts about 432 :

I verified some of the information independently, but not all. I think the general theme for picking a musical tuning based on natural resonances really makes sense though, and in this respect, A=432 appears to be the number people are jumping on. The fact that the “establishment” has standardized us away from this tuning, when it seems a very worthy contender for being the standard ( if a standard was needed at all ), intrigues me too.

Getting back to the notion of sound ( therefore musical tuning ) affecting the body, I found these youtube videos showing different sound frequencies resonating sand…… They both give a good visual image of different sound waves changing physical form. A context perhaps to why we should be aware of the frequencies we generate? Why not try and generate sound in harmony with our environment?

Anyway, having read and watched all this stuff, I was interested enough to try tuning my guitar to A=432 ( luckily my tuner does this, not all do ), and after playing through a few old favourites, I felt like things sounded generally, harmonically “sweeter”, all be it in a subtle way. It’s strange but true, that music may actually sound better just by altering the pitch we play at by a tiny amount. If we can hear it sounding better, imagine what it might be doing to our bodies! So watch out, the next High Knights track is going to be tuned in true knightly fashion, according to the wisdoms of sacred geometry, ancient knowledge and a bit of Jimi Hendrix – maybe you’ll notice, maybe you won’t!

Ok, next thing to look at ( if you’re digging this stuff ) should really be what are called “intervals” – that’s the space between the individual notes. Where it is best for them to be and why -It’s a bit the same as the idea of having a better master tuning ( in harmony with natural resonance ) that we have explored above. Similar themes too.. music, ancient knowledge, standardization ( conspiracy ) etc.. Ok, thats all for now though, hope you’ve enjoyed.

Cheers HG.

Thanks for taking the time for reading this blog…..If you have anything to contribute on this subject, would love to hear your thoughts, please drop a comment.

Alright it’s been a week and well…yep you caught me. here I am writing another Snazzy blog for you to read..I know…. seriously who says snazzyy??? anyways it’s good I enjoy this shit. hope you do to…

So as i said in the first one (My blog Debut –
I come across some well pretty interesting stuff around the traps and here is my spot to share it. So… along with movie reviews, cool photo’s i might take, youtube vids i stumble across, documentarys, song lyrics and blah blah blah.. I also meet some cool people who i think are just as interesting and Def worth a mention..

Today Let me Introduce to you Sharon Brooks!

A beautiful woman with a beautiful voice. She is a fine import to Australia from Barbados and is currently residing on the Sunshine Coast. Along with wowing crowds as she continues to gig around QLD she has also been working hard on new material for an upcoming album witch she has plans to record here too! well you would never guess who with… Let just say HG is the perfect Producer for the job… alright well… she thinks so too!

Since we first met up (lets say as of november last year?) she has worked on a couple of High Knights songs with us. You may have caught her performing them live with us during some of our recent shows? Anyways you can catch her performing with us next time we play. =)

Catching up with her over a cuppa tea recently I got the answers to these 5 Questions.

Q. Tell me about some of the projects you are involved with and what ones excite you the most?
A. Projects involved with this year…wowo….those are alot…..but trying to complete my third album which i’ve been working on for about two years now. its been going through alot of phases. Also working on two new music videos and performances with other canadian artists here in australia later this year. bascially spreading my wings in this new territory, trying to meet and work with as many talented
aussie’s as possible. i love the vibe here so i really want to get immersed in it.

Q. Gimme something wise whats your favorite saying?

A. My favourite saying would have to be “let the joy of laughter lead
you to the music in life”…penned by yours truly…:)

Q. Something you couldn’t live without and why?

A. Something i couldn’t live without…..probably my computer…
whole life is on there, my music, my ways of communicating with my
family and friends….not to mention my games:)

Q. How do you go about getting fresh idea’s?

A. Fresh ideas usually come from getting out into nature and being
around people who are inspirational in one way or another. but nature
usually does it the best for me

Q. With your experience behind you is there anything you would do different?

A. I guess there is always something we can say we would do differently….many opportunities i can think of where i did not want to be to pushy or too excited and maybe let a chance pass by, probably because i was afraid of being judged or offending someone. but ultimately, changing anything from the past would be changing my present, and i am truly comfortable and appreciative of everything that i have been able to experience, personally and professionally.

Here’s good place to peep her music and then go from there to find her elsewhere on the web. Click here for Sharon’s Reverbnation Page.

you can hear her voice in “One Good Night”

hello, friends, fam, fans and People from all over. welcome to my First Blog.

I Hope you find the music on this page something you enjoy or this blog entertaining enough for you.. First of all let me tell you I am a fairly careless typer so mind all the miss correct spelling and lack of grammar. I’m Human I make mistakes and I don’t have a proof reader for these blogs, I haven’t got the time to go back and forth correcting myself I’m just typing as i am thinking….. anyways got that off my shoulders Let me begin..

I have decided to make a blog. Figured I come across some pretty cool shit in my life and wanna share my findings along with a nice lil chunky piece of mind…. I am interested in meeting like minded people so get in touch if your keen on sharing something with me

First of all. I’d like to introduce you to my love of documentary’s. I watch a lot of them.. I watch them when i wash the dishes at home actually.. Its always great to learn new things. So amongst all the stuff I’m gonna post, I will be posting the doco’s that i seriously highly recommend … I won’t tell you about the crappy ones =)

I seen this one the other week about how we treat physiological disorders like depression and bi-polar etc. and how Big corporations make Big bucks from diagnosing almost any body with some sort of disorder. Its crazy we all strive to be perfect therefore, on our quest for a perfect health and head space we seek medical advice and un-natural in-purity’s to deal to our emotions and stress levels. Treating mental problems like they are faults and we are faulty rather than accept that we are human and no body is perfect…. anyways I do believe these metal issues exist however I don’t think turning to drugs and relying on them is a good way to handle these problems.. there is big bucks in addiction and managing head problems.. there are also health risks you don’t often hear about. check the doco I am talking about here.
